FAREWELL CEREMONY HELD FOR MONGOLIAN TEAM HEADING TO THE “MILAN CORTINA 2026” WINTER PARALYMPIC GAMES

A farewell ceremony for the Mongolian team set to participate in the 14th Winter Paralympic Games “Milan Cortina 2026” was held at the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth of Mongolia. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth of Mongolia, Ms. Undram Chinbat, Director Mr. Jargalsaikhan D., Chairman of the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports Mr. Bilegt E., President of the Mongolian National Paralympic Committee Mr. Chimed-Otgon Ch., and other officials. The 14th Winter Paralympic Games will take place from March 6 to 15, 2026, in Milan and Cortina, Italy, bringing together 665 athletes from 50 countries competing in six sports, with a total of 79 medal events.
Representing Mongolia, athletes Mr. Ganbold B. and Mr. Dashdorj Ts. will compete in the men’s 10 km and 20 km cross-country skiing events, while Mr. Tserenpuntsag B. will compete in alpine skiing in the giant slalom and slalom events. The team will be coached by national ski coaches Mr. Dashdondog J. and Mr. Ochirsukh D..
Addressing the athletes, Member of Parliament and Minister Ms. Undram Chinbat stated:
“You are not only testing your strength, skill, and determination on the field of sport, but also overcoming yourselves, demonstrating resilience, and showing the limitless potential of human beings. You are heroes of peaceful times and the pride of the Mongolian people…” She also wished the athletes great success after years of dedicated training to qualify for the Games and presented them with their opening ceremony and training uniforms.

During the ceremony, Minister Ms. Undram Chinbat handed over the State Flag of Mongolia to cross-country skier Ts. Dashdorj, who will serve as the flag bearer for the Mongolian team at the Games. On behalf of the team, athletes Mr. Tserenpuntsag B. and Mr. Ganbold B. took the athlete’s oath. The flag of the Mongolian National Paralympic Committee was also presented to team leader Mr. Renchinkhand D., President of the Mongolian Para Cross-Country Ski Federation, by President Mr. Chimed-Otgon Ch..

Mongolia first participated in the Winter Paralympic Games 20 years ago, when athlete Mr. Sukhbaatar N. competed in cross-country skiing at the “Turin 2006” Winter Paralympics in Italy. Since then, Mongolia has participated in five editions of the Winter Paralympic Games. Mr. Ganbold B. is making his fourth appearance, while Mr. Dashdorj Ts. and Mr. Tserenpuntsag B. are each competing for the second time. Although Mongolia has yet to win a medal at the Winter Paralympic Games, which have been held since 1976, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Games, making it a particularly significant occasion.
