MINISTER OF CULTURE, SPORTS, TOURISM AND YOUTH OF MONGOLIA, MS. UNDRAM CHINBAT, RECEIVES MONGOLIA’S 2026 WINTER OLYMPIC TEAM

Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth of Mongolia, Ms. Undram Chinbat, met with and welcomed the athletes and coaches of Mongolia’s National Ski Team, who will represent the country at the XXV Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026 in Italy, on 8 January 2026. Representatives of the State Committee of Physical Education and Sports, the Mongolian National Olympic Committee, and the Mongolian Ski Association also attended the meeting.
Representing Mongolia at the 25th Winter Olympics, Mr. B. Achbadrakh and Ms. E. Ariuntungalag have qualified to compete in cross-country skiing, while Mr. A. Ariunbat will compete in alpine skiing.

The Minister congratulated the athletes and highlighted that this will mark the first time a Mongolian athlete participates in alpine skiing at the Winter Olympics. She noted that while only two athletes from Mongolia have competed in each of the past five Winter Olympics, this year Mongolia will send three athletes, demonstrating progress achieved through strengthened cooperation between government and non-governmental organizations. The Minister also confirmed that national ski team athletes receive salaries as members of the National team, and that their training programs, participation in international competitions, and Olympic-related expenses, including ceremonial and competition uniforms are fully supported by the Mongolian National Olympic Committee.

During the meeting, the Mongolian Ski Association requested support for the design and financing of an international-standard ski resort in Bornuur, Tov Aimag, and presented proposals for policies and measures to develop skiing in both the capital and provincial areas. It was noted that in 2025, Mr. N. Watanabe, an expert from the International Ski Federation, conducted an on-site inspection of the planned ski course and granted it international certification. The Association stated that initial investment for the project is expected to begin in 2026. Minister Undram Chinbat expressed her commitment to supporting the establishment of the ski resort as part of Mongolia’s winter sports and tourism development, through state budget funding, public–private partnerships, and tax incentive policies.
Minister Ms. Undram Chinbat further emphasized the importance of actively developing winter sports such as skiing, skating, and ice hockey during Mongolia’s long winter season. She announced that upcoming agreements between the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth and provincial and municipal governors will support the organization of winter sports competitions and events, as well as the development of infrastructure, equipment, and coaching capacity.
The farewell ceremony for the Mongolian athletes participating in the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics is scheduled for 12 January 2026 at the ceremonial hall of the Mongolian National Olympic Committee. The ski team athletes will depart for Europe starting 14 January, participate in World Cup competitions, and proceed to the Olympic venues to continue their training and acclimatize to the climate and time difference.
