“MONGOLIAN CRAFTSMEN: HERITAGE AND CREATION” SPECIAL EXHIBITION OPENS

Under the auspices of the President of Mongolia, H.E. Mr. Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, a special exhibition titled “Mongolian Blacksmiths: Heritage and Creation” has opened to mark the 390th anniversary of the birth of Undur Gegeen Zanabazar. The exhibition is jointly organized by the Office of the President of Mongolia, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth, the “Tumen Erdenes” Blacksmiths’ Association, the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, the National Museum of Mongolia, the Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum and the Union of Mongolian Artists.
The exhibition, held under the theme “The Role of Blacksmiths in Mongolian History”, showcases 138 works by 60 leading craftsmen from Mongolia, the Republic of Buryatia (Russian Federation) and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (PRC). The works will be on display at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum from July 4 to 20, 2025.

The opening ceremony was attended by President H.E. Mr. Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Amarsaikhan Sainbuyan, Minister of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth Ms. Undram Chinbat, Chairman of the “Tumen Erdenes” Professional Blacksmiths’ Association Mr. Batzorigt S., and other officials. During the event, the 20 best works were selected and the President presented top honors to four outstanding artworks.
The awards for the four most outstanding works were presented by President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa:
Gilded bronze “White Tara” – by “Zanabazar’s Design” NGO
“Silver Cup” – by blacksmirh B. Bayarsaikhan
Gilded “Gan Khet Dagger” with dragon motif – by blacksmith N. Bat-Erdene
“Hunnu Saddle” – by “Mongon Talst” Studio
Minister Ms. Undram Chinbat also presented certificates of recognition from the Office of the President to the creators of 16 distinguished works.

This exhibition is part of the implementation of Presidential Decree No. 115 (2016) on the promotion of craftsmanship and aims to preserve, study and promote Mongolia’s traditional craftsmanship, while supporting master artisans who safeguard this intangible cultural heritage and pass down their knowledge to future generations.
